OMG! Google wants to read my e-mails!

Well, not exactly e-mails - spam only. (Are they crazy, or something?). Said enough, now it's time for some pictures.

Google wants to read your spam!
Those who don't like flickr click here

Please, note that: "Name and message content will never be shared with anyone outside Google and we will only use this information to improve our spam filters" doesn't clarify who (either machine or human being) is going to read about viagra and penis enlargement.

We already know, that Google AdSense robots scan (or read, if you prefer) our e-mails against AdWords keywords, to bring context ads on GMail.

Hmmm... to believe or not to believe, that is the question...

Why in english?

I think I could thrust Google.
If they really want, they do that without my permission :)

no issue here at all.

email is inherently an insecure medium. if you have something important to say you don't say it via email. let them read all they want from my spam (hell even my inbox)

It is written that your spam mail will be transfered to anty-spam team if you agree - so imho there is no questions :)

Yes, people will see your spam massages about viagra and penis enlargement ;P But I don't think they will check from who they get that e-mails.

Hey, better say how to turn this function on! I'd like Google to filter my spam messages and report it to Google antispam team. It will improve antispam filters.

"I think I could *thrust* Google."
With a jet engine? :>

wzs: I've been really thinking about switching to English (at all). You, Polish geeks, should be able to understand nearly everything, and I will get a chance to reach more 'internationals' and my Scottish co-workers & friends.

However, regarding your question about this particular post: it's better to use English, when you expect guests ;-P (http://blog.outer-court.com/archive/2006-11-16-n68.html)

Krystek: Try replying to one of the false positives (if you have any), directly from the Spam folder (and without using "Not Spam" button).

@Piko: how did it happen that this message showed to you?
I (under opera), probably like Azrael, don't see anything? browser specific?

Haven't seen that message either. Yet? Perhaps it's in the English interface version of GMail? It's usually how it goes - they release various improvements to the original English language versions of their products and then successively replace the others.

I'm undecided whether I'd like them to read my spam. Just ask yourself a question - WHO defines what is SPAM in Google Mail? Is it the Pope? No. Santa Claus? Uh-uh. Miss World? Wrong!

One day, your perfectly private non-spam message might be intercepted by their anti-spam team. They could then apologize and tell you they are working hard to improve their product and that it was a bug or a non-perfect algorithm.

But then... How do you know they don't read your e-mails right now? Because they didn't ask for it?

Ah, conspiracy theory. ;)

wzs: You can always use Google translator ...if you know any other language, cause there is no "to Polish" translation ;p

PaneQ: Hmm... some of them were opened more than a week ago... I haven't time to read them all yet :-)

I was surprised to see that now whole email session is encrypted with SSL, not only during login... For how long it is like that?

14. Piotr Konieczny Sobota, 18 listopada 2006, 21:01:41

Didimos: It's not. However you can force GMail do encrypt the session, when you type: https://mail.google.com/mail and then login.

15. Didimos Sobota, 18 listopada 2006, 22:17:46

That explain mystery... I probably did so some time ago and forgot about it...
